Committed to the fight against doping in sport, HKADC will introduce a new component to its testing programme starting in 2012 — blood testing. Complementary to urine testing, blood testing enhances or allows the detection of the use of prohibited methods/substances that cannot be detected in urine such as blood transfusion, growth hormone, insulin and continuous erythropoietin receptor activator (CERA). The introduction of blood testing will therefore better protect the right of our clean athletes to compete in adoping-free environment.
As the technology on detection of prohibited methods/substances in blood sample continues to improve, the number of blood tests conducted by anti-doping organizations across the world has increased steadily. It is the right time for HKADC to incorporate blood test in its comprehensive testing programme.
